OUR TRADITION

A Rich Heritage of the Churrasco

The founders of Fogo de Chão grew up on a traditional farm in southern Brazil in the Serra Gaucha. It is here that they learned to cook in the churrasco tradition that would become the backbone of our history.

The founding brothers left the picturesque mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sul for Rio and São Paulo to receive formal churrasqueiro training, while the Fogo concept was developed.

This first restaurant, built with a wooden structure and nestled in the Porto Alegre countryside, arose from an obsession with quality, investments in the art and culture of the city, and respect for the heritage of the families of the founders. .

After earning a reputation among politicians, businessmen and celebrities who came from all over Brazil to try the experience, Fogo opened his second restaurant in São Paulo.

At the request of loyal American guests, the Fogo concept was exported to the United States with a debut in Dallas, Texas.

Between 1997 and 2013, expansion continued in Brazil and the United States. Thus opening 29 new restaurants.

Just before Christmas 2013, Fogo opened a three-story, 16,000-square-foot flagship location in New York City. The impressive architectural design includes a seventeen-foot bas-relief sculpture by Antonio Caringi, O Laçador, a historic monument in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The culinary team has continued the tradition of developing new menu creations rooted in Brazilian tradition that further the Brazilian churrasco experience. In 2013, new seafood dishes were introduced. Later that year, the concept of Bar Fogo emerged at Fogo's restaurants, introducing guests to new Brazilian-inspired small plates, award-winning wines, and cocktails.

SPREADING OUR CULTURE

Thanks to years of hard work and staying committed to excellence, the Fogo de Chão team has opened locations in several major Brazilian and U.S, cities, but the journey is not quite finished. Fogo continues to introduce new flavors and experiences to audiences across the globe.
